NED602 and Rosen Jacobson have been accepted in the series class and placed on the official starting list for the TRANSAT 2011 by January 11, 2011. For the latest startinglist click here. The race will be organised again by GPO (Grand Pavois Organisation) from La Rochelle and is sailed from La Rochelle to Madeira and from Madeira to Salvador the Bahia, Brasil.

All boats will have to be present in "le bassin des Chalutiers", near the Race Village in La Rochelle on September 15, 17.00 hrs for presentations to the public and controls and security checks. There will be several security and navigational meetings in new builded "the Aquarium" for the skippers as well. The race village will have several activities for the public through the weeks before the departure of the 72 Mini Transats.

F.e. tents with sponsors, a cafe/restaurant overlooking "le bassin des Chalutiers ". Environmental issues are addressed, there are explanations of the (history of the) race and the expected weatherpatterns to Brasil. Schools from all over Charante Maritime will be present with their paintings and interpretations and messages of saving the Ocean environment. These paintings will be put in our sails. There is also a pond with sailingboats for children. School Classes are taken to the jetties, where they will be explained extensively about the boats and the life at sea. The jetties will be overcrowded by visiters.

And of course there is La Rochelle which is a very pittoresque old village made of sandstone, with restaurtants and terraces near the old waterfront.

The Transat 650 2011 will start from La Rochelle on September 25 at 17.17 hrs for 1100 nautical miles to Fayal/Madeira.

Finish in Madeira to be expected October 2nd 2011.

Start from Fayal/Madeira will be on October 15, 2011 at 12.02 hrs local time for the 3300 nautical miles to Salvador de Bahia, Brasil.

Finish in Salvador de Bahia expected November 6, 2011.

After the first “storm” (30 knots of wind) NED 602 met on August 20 2010 around midday, by accident with Max Havelaar, an Open 60 and one of the 4 accompanying boats on the Atlantic. About 200 pictures were taken by the Max Havelaar crew from a surfing NED 602. Though winds had dropped to 18 knots, with a little effort of the skipper, large surfs could still be made on the existing waves….

In our Gallery more photographs of  the “Mid Atlantic Meeting with Max Havelaar” can be seen.

Another publication on the site of ClasseMini mentiones the start position of NED602. For those who can read French!

`Au départ du prologue, quelques concurrents montraient de belles dispositions, notamment Ryan Finn (252) premier à franchir la ligne ou bien encore Robert Rosenjacobson (NED 602) auteur d’un départ magistral en bout de ligne.`

The week before departure was hectic. I met my boat in disorder. The preparation and changes which should have been made had only for a part been started. The result was: no sleep during the first three nights and working full time to get the boat through the secu check. At the start I was exhausted Continue reading
